About the Department

The Minocqua Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s mission statement is to “Provide life safety, fire
safety and education to the citizens and visitors of Minocqua through dedication, innovation and compassion.” We exist to protect, care for, educate and serve our community and its visitors. Minocqua Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department started in 1894 and is proud of a long rich history of serving our community. For nearly 130 years, citizens of Minocqua and surrounding communities have come together to help their neighbors and our visitors in their greatest time of need. Minocqua purchased our first fire truck in 1926 and still have it today in our history room. Since then, we have been through a number of different trucks, boats, snowmobiles and equipment over the decades. The town of Minocqua covers 178 square miles of land has an equalized property valuation of over $2.2 billion dollars. This equates to a whole lot of land, people and property to protect and care for.
Our members are the epitome of “dedication, innovation and compassion.” Our innovation has been proven time and time again over the years. Our forefathers developed one of the first Rescue Squad teams in the country back in 1964. We have continued to be on the forefront of fire and rescue tactics, equipment and mindset and still push ourselves to be the best we can for our community. Due to our wide coverage area, we have two stations to best serve the area. Our “new” Station 1 building was built in 2017 and we are very blessed to have it. This building has 14,100 square feet and includes four double deep apparatus bays, a large training room, office spaces, fitness center, kitchen/lounge and history room. Station 2 is out in the Bo-di-Lac area and has been a staple there for over 49 years. There are two smaller buildings with a total of four bays and a meeting room. Lastly, educating the public is very important to us. We are very involved with our local community and events. We work with our elementary and high school, our town library and multiple youth organizations. We provide fire prevention classes to children of all ages as well as provided training and education to adult groups and businesses. We agree with the National Fire Protection Agency in that we can all help make the world a safer place by learning about how and why fires start. If you’re ever in the area we would love to meet you and give a tour of our station. The Town of Minocqua is very fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers that are willing to risk their lives to save yours.
